Today I’ve got the Pioneer DVR-X162Q Qflix Enabled External DVD/CD Writer for review and from my time with it, and comparing it to two other external drives, I’ve found it’s a very fast drive. As for the Qfilx part of it, Qflix is something that only a few drives have on them, it’s special feature that works in conjunction with CinemaNow and Roxio Venue to allow you to purchase, download and burn movies to DVD, something I think is a very nice feature, especially if you watch a lot of movies as I do.

I purchased the Pioneer DVR-X162Q for just one purpose. to Create a DVD that would play in “any home player” using the QFLIX media etc. The test DVD-r recording I made on the DVR-X162Q using a Verbatim DVD-r blank, and the bundled Roxio suite, played fine on the DVR-X162Q, but not on either of my home dvd players, I then inserted one of the two included blank QFLIX media into the drive, hit burn, and received the message “unable to write to disc, please have another blank disc handy to try again”. If, as I suspect, QFLIX technology is just a scheme to sell movies, offering nothing technically to address my compatibility problem, then I have been had again. Kinda like paying for satellite commercial free TV or Radio and, well your know. I have a support call into Pioneer, so I will see what they think. But I believe I know the answer. Enjoyed your review.

I have the DVR-162Q and it sucks! I didn’t even pay attention to the QFLIX aspect of it! I just mainly wanted to burn things inside my computer or copy some disc! This is the worst product I’ve ever bought! I am so unhappy and this was a birthday gift!
I only want to know how to run it in conjunction with Windows Media Player, and if I can’t I don’t want it at all! The Roxio disc is ruining my computer, I keep uninstalling it. Help! The computer starts to shut down and the internet flashes on and off. Once I uninstall it’s fine!
